Submit your film

Questions

The ones filmmakers ask us most. If yours isn't here, tap Chat to us or email info@secretsaturday.co.za.

Entering

Does it cost anything to enter?

No. Entry is free. Mirunzini will never ask you for a submission fee, and no one may charge you one on our behalf. If someone asks you to pay, tell us.

Who can enter?

Filmmakers and storytellers from Limpopo and across South Africa. The person entering must be the director, the producer, or someone they have authorised.

Can I enter more than one film?

Yes, up to five films. Each film can go into every category it qualifies for.

I am under 18. Can I enter?

Yes. A parent or guardian gives their details and consent in the portal before your entry is complete.

My film was finished before 2024. Can I enter it?

No. This year we take films finished after 1 January 2024.

Can I enter a work in progress or a rough cut?

No. Send the finished film.

Your film and screener

How do I send my film?

Share a private link: YouTube (unlisted), Vimeo (with a password) or Google Drive (anyone with the link can view). Keep it working until 12 December. The screener guide shows each one step by step.

The portal says my link is incomplete. What now?

The portal checks every link when you paste it. If it can't open yours, the link is usually set to Private, or Drive is set to Restricted. Fix the sharing setting, paste the link again and press Check again.

My film is not in English. Can I enter?

Yes, and we'd love that. Films in every South African language are welcome. Add English subtitles so the whole jury can follow it.

Can I use AI tools in my film?

Yes, but if generative AI made a large part of the picture or sound, say so in your credits.

Does my film need music clearance?

Yes. You confirm that all music, footage and artwork is yours, licensed or cleared, and that everyone on screen agreed to appear.

Your details

Why do you ask for my ID number?

It confirms you are who you say you are, keeps it to one account per person, and lets us pay prizes. Only the festival office can see it. Judges never do.

Who sees my entry?

The festival office and the jurors assigned to your film. Jurors see the film and its details, not your ID number or contact details. Our privacy notice explains what we keep and for how long.

After you enter

Can I change my entry after I submit?

You can edit your film's details until entries close, and you can withdraw at any time from the portal. Once the programme is published, email us before you withdraw.

When will I hear back?

Every entrant hears from us by email before the festival on 11–12 December. You can also follow your entry's status in the portal.

If my film is selected, what do you need?

A screening file by a date we'll give you, and permission to use the title, poster, stills and up to three minutes of excerpts to promote the festival.
