Work with us

It takes about sixty people to run the Theatre Fest: ushers, technical crew, drivers, photographers, promoters and more. Most of the roles are paid, and you can volunteer too. We're looking for people in and around Thohoyandou first.

Apply nowFree to apply. About five minutes.

The roles

You don't need experience for most of them, just to be reliable and good with people. Where a role needs something specific, it says so.

Ushers and front of house

Welcome the audience, check people in, show them to their seats and keep the queues moving.

Paid.

Box office and registration

Register filmmakers, artists and guests, hand out passes and keep the lists straight.

Paid. Comfortable with a phone or laptop.

Technical crew

Sound, projection, lighting and stage management for every screening, show and panel.

Paid. Some experience with sound, screens, lights or stage work.

Stage and seating build

Put up the stage, seating and shade before the festival, and take it down after.

Paid. Fit for physical work, including the set-up day.

Security

Keep the venue, the equipment and the people in it safe.

Paid. PSIRA registration.

Cleaning team

Keep the venue, bathrooms and seating clean through both days.

Paid.

Drivers

Move filmmakers, artists, guests and equipment between Thohoyandou, accommodation and the venue.

Paid. A valid driver's licence, and a PrDP to carry passengers.

Photographers

Photograph the screenings, performances, panels and people.

Paid. Your own camera, and a few photos you've taken.

Videographer and editor

Film the festival and cut the highlights.

Paid. Your own kit, and a link to work you've shot or edited.

Panel moderators and facilitators

Host the Q&As and panels after screenings and shows, and run workshops.

Paid. Confident speaking in front of a crowd, in English and at least one local language.

Community promoters

Spread the word in the weeks before: schools, taxi ranks, churches, villages and WhatsApp groups.

Paid. Know your community, and be able to start before the festival.

Content creators

Post about the festival before and during it, on the platforms where you already have an audience.

Paid. An active TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or X account. Send us the link.

Volunteer

Help wherever the festival needs hands, and see how a festival runs from the inside.

Unpaid.

Good to know

Do I need experience?

Not for most roles. Ushers, box office, cleaning, the build crew, promoters and volunteers learn on the job. Technical, security, driving, photography and video need the skills or papers listed with the role.

Is there a fee to apply?

Never. We don't charge anything to apply or to get a job. If someone asks you to pay, it isn't us: tell us at info@ngomaproductions.co.za.

Can I work both festivals?

Yes. The Theatre Fest is on 4–5 December and the Film Festival on 11–12 December. Tick the box in the form and both teams will see your application.

How old do I have to be?

18 or older on the day you start.

What happens to my CV?

Only the festival team sees it. We keep it to staff this year's festival and delete it by 30 June 2027. Read our privacy notice.
